Keio University at a Glance

Established in 1858 by Yukichi Fukuzawa whose portrait appears on 10,000 yen notes (the highest denomination), Keio University is the oldest higher educational institution in Japan.

Today, Keio University is made up of 5 campuses, located in and around Tokyo, and has a total enrollment of over 20,000 undergraduate students and thousands graduate students. Keio's alumni range from the Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi to presidents of Toyota and IBM Japan, and Keio University is surely one of the leading universities, notably in commerce, economics, medicine and engineering.
